Subject: How to calibrate MacDon FD70 on Deere combine?

SW Iowa
Purchased a 2013 30' MacDon FD70 from a neighbor before harvest last year to run on our 2005 John Deere 9560STS. Tried to calibrate to run auto header height but was not able to complete calibration. Ran it last year just based on pressure in the lift cylinders. The FD70 just has one sensor on it between attachment frame and center frame, does not have headsight kit.

For my 693 corn head (two sensors) I run with buttons A and B active for feeder house resume on button 1 on the hydro handle and header height resume on buttons 2 and 3. For my previous 625F hydraflex auger head I would run with buttons B and E active for same hydro handle behavior.

When trying to calibrate the FD70 draper I tried both combinations and received back an error from the display both times. Do I not have the correct header height sensing functions active?

My guess is that I need to change something on the combine side since there is only one sensor on the head, then I can run in the same mode as my corn head. Is this correct? What would I need to change?

Overall I really like the FD70 over the 625F and would like to use the height sensor on the head for better responsiveness.

For anyone who stumbles on this post wondering if a 30' MacDon can be run on a class 5 Deere combine, the answer is yes, just need 70mm lift cylinders (I tried with 60mm first) and I would recommend fluid in rear tires for stopping ability. I did not have to slow down at all adding five feet of width and the short beans no longer slug the feeder house.
