SCPA, Franklin County | I put 2 new batteries in older JD excavator. They are in series for a 24v starter system. Installed new batteries, attempted to start machine, no start.
Went back to batteries to find this had happened on the negative side of the battery that is connected to 2nd battery positive post.
I can't imagine how it got hot enough to melt the post so quickly.
I can't say I ever saw a post melt like this. Feeling fortunate that the battery didn't explode, I'm kind of nervous standing near it to remove.
Is this a result of a defective battery? Or did something on the excavator cause it?
