If I have the concept correct, it automatically increased power momentarily. For whatever reason, on ours, it tended to stick the wire to the tip. I really had trouble with it, but don't consider myself a good welder. I had a neighbor who worked for us in the winter who was a very good welder. He struggled with it as well. We changed and adjusted everything we could think of. Disabling the hot start fixed the wire sticking to the tip issue.

The Miller tech guy said some installed a switch to turn the hot start on and off as needed. He also said that most didn't do that, and noticed no difference. Just clip it and forget it. They do have directions on how to switch it though I guess.

If you can open up the welder where all the diodes are, and get your SN handy, call Miller if you determine that may be an issue.
