Upper Sandusky, Ohio | When I worked at the deere dealer, I was told to drive a tractor back to the customers. I didn't work on it, but jumped in and fired it up, then let it warm up for about 15 minutes because it was about 30 degrees outside. Temp gauge never really came up, heat wasn't working(but it was an old 20 series tractor), but it was running great. About 15-20 miles in, the gauge started climbing, got almost to the red. I was able to pull into a township house lot, checked things over and realized there wasn't any coolant in it... Called my boss and he sent someone out with antifreeze, we put that in and drove it back to the store to check it out. Heat worked great on the way back though... About 3 years later, that tractor came in with a spun number one rod bearing, coincidence or correlation? I don't know... As far as I know, the customer was never told about it, and I didn't work on it, so didn't feel that I should butt in there... Although in hindsight, I SHOULD have checked the coolant before I started when I checked the oil level... If I remember right though, when the bearing spun, the customer declined doing the whole engine, but the crank was ground, one new rod, and just rings on the one cylinder, so the other ones were never even apart... | |
