| If the cutterbar had no movement, then you did not have the jack in the right position. There is always some movement. You need to position the jack as far to the front of the cutterbar as possible which is under the curved rock guards. It is hard to keep the jack from sliding away.
You are correct that there should be an overlap of the two cups. This keeps material from getting into the bottom gearbox seal. Check the mounting on the left side where the mounting bolts go. Make sure the inner mounting plate has not broken loose. Did you install the nuts so the cone side of the nut goes against the frame, opposite of how you install lock nuts.
If you indeed do not have much movement, then have a ring machined long enough to over lap the top cup and weld the ring to the cup of the drive shaft. Failure to remove most of the up and down movement of the cutterbar can result in the output shaft of the gearbox being pushed up into the gearbox breaking the gearbox housing. | |
