Your D21 with dead engine is worth more than it would if you put a good different model engine in it.

Bought D21 in 1979 with mead cab, pto, no 3pt. Every winter went on manure spreader used everyday because had a cab and good heater. Rest of time was used in heavy tillage. Had the D21 for 3 decades. Never much more than oil changes and tires. Finally tires bald, engine needing overhaul, pto had clicking sound under heavy load, transmission growled like junk yard dog, paint was faded terribly. We decided with the hot market on D21s in late 2009 instead of rebuilding it to classic shape, we advertised it. Got 12k cash within the week. Not bad for $4k investment and worked it for 3 decades.
