Subject: JD RD35F draper question

I have been running this draper head for 2 seasons now and I have only one real complaint and looking for advice on something. I have the curtains I call them or rubber deflectors that are riveted to a bracket bolted to the bottom side of the top beam over the throat of the head. It seems every year I have issues with fingers breaking or something with come in and starting hitting that bracket and I end up taking out the rivets and usually the front deflector or it bends out the little piece of steel that the rivets go through on the front side. I am seriously considering just removing that entire bracket. Will I have any issues too look for if those deflectors or curtains aren't there? What do you guys think or have done? Tia
