I can stop the wire with one hand. The rollers pretty much quit turning, when the wire stops feeding while I’m holding it.

Sounds like a very weak feed motor. From my very limited experience, the motor should power through almost anything, and should definitely have enough push to overcome your own grip strength.

I'm not saying that the feed motor is your only issue. Definitely start with cleaning/replacing the wire. But if that doesn't solve the problem, then I'd dig further into the weak feed motor.
