You’re wrong on several points. As several people have pointed out, airplane tires are rated for high speeds but for only very short times (landing or take-off) followed by a cool down period.

I’ll say that the rubber compounds used don’t seem to be any harder and are probably softer than what is used on the typical ag tire. The ones I’ve bought don’t usually have full tread depth on them, but they have enough plies in the carcass to run a very long time if you don’t mind looking at plies!

I believe your last statements are correct though. You know how they fit on your operation.

I recently made the decision not to replace a set on the front of my 4440 with more of them because I don’t use it in thorny brush any more and the price was similar to a cheaper import brand of 3 rib 11.00-16 tire. On the other hand, if I still had the 6030 with 14L-16.1 fronts, they would probably be my go to tire because of price and I would not hesitate to buy more when I need them for my old grain cart with lock ring wheels made for them or for the CX20 bush cutters with bolt together two piece rims.

They are a good fit for special purpose uses. And they do require more work or certainly different ways of mounting, maintenance and operation than the typical ag tire until you are comparing the two in uses where their characteristics are a good fit.

Flats are a productivity killer and airplane tires with a good stopleak fill can minimize that downtime without going to foam filled or solid/composite tires. When/if I decide to pay for foam filling, I’m going to use a tire that’s going to last as long as possible. That’s going to be an airplane tire or one built like an airplane tire specially for that use.
