Subject: RE: Gleaner R62 Throat face plate tilt question

I had the exact same question earlier this year and we run the same vintage of machine and heads. We have large singles on our machine and it is 4wd.

In speaking with David Moeller, you want the feeder chain sticking out past the face plate to help pull the crop in from the head. We've not used it in corn yet but I am looking forward to it as I think it will improve the angle of the stalk rolls and should tip the conveyor/auger trough some while pushing the feeder chain out some to help with feeding. In addition, tipping it back will keep us from having to run the snouts just off the ground.

When cutting wheat this year we found it cut and feed much better as the sickle was cutting perpendicular to the straw. My understanding is that you want the sickle setup this way for a cleaner cut and as noted below, it also helps to prevent picking up any rocks, etc.

No expert but should know better after corn harvest. For wheat it was definitely an improvement and I've since moved it back a little more.
