What do you guys think when a dealer says we won’t trade for your piece but I’ll sell you ours and you can just sell yours yourself but with no cash and carry discount.

I think what another poster said...if they won't take a trade, they aren't really in the machinery business...

However, we hear that all the time from customers that want to trade us multiple units to clean up their farms after every other dealership in the area has told them that at some point, and they just go ahead and buy without trading.

If customers don't refuse to work with dealerships like that, then they will all KEEP doing it, and you will eventually not have anyone to trade with...except me LOL Used machinery is our bread and butter!

Think about it, if no one had to worry about trades, then the giant mess we have seen all summer of dealers tanking resale values by dumping high dollar units at auction would be gone...and that burden would sit solidly on the customers. You think the machinery markets are rough now!!

I've said it here before, and I'm saying it now...most LARGE dealerships are not really in the machinery business, they are order takers. I understand why that is, but it just doesn't work well long term for the health of the dealership AND it's customers!
