Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn.
I suspect your basic question is "since you only have 80 acres of corn, and already have connected the corn head must you make certain changes?" The simple answer is mostly not but you will need to connect the reel drive hoses together.

You must connect the reel hoses to each other to allow the oil which would normally power a reel on a grain head to circulate. If those hoses are just disconnected and are not joined together, oil cannot circulate, the reel pump will not be able to turn and the belt would need to slip.

As far as the drum stops, I always change mine but many folks don't bother. A change over kit is available for older combines to allow this change to be made with a head attached.

The single action hose that is used to raise the reel can be used to change the feeder house speed in corn. The feeder house must run at it's slowest speed for the grain head so as not cause damage. Plugging that hose into the variable feeder house drive will allow you to speed up the feeder house in corn which may be desirable. I would certainly plug it in as it is so easy to do.

You must remember to slow the feeder house back down to its slowest position before disconnecting that hose when returning back to using your grain platform.
