The Mchale 998 has an optional round bale kit that allows it to wrap rounds. The kit looks like something that could be built at home if you have a welder and modest skills.

I have wrapped both squares and rounds, and prefer squares for ease in hauling and storing. I currently own two 998 mchale wrappers, and have previously owned other models, including a Tanco 1814LA. While the Tanco is built well, the Mchale is still more reliable and user friendly. Most likely parts and service are easier to source with the Mchale as well.

I don’t have an answer to your original question. The Tanco has a clamp style load arm for squares. It seems like that would also grab a round bale, maybe add something to make the edges softer to avoid damage to the net wrap. It would not be a big problem to solve.
