Just happened to do an experiment with bearings that wasn’t planned. Rebuilt final drive on case 7120 combine this past winter and somehow mechanic and his helper had forgotten to fill it with gear oil.

I had roaded it 10 miles and harvested about 120 acres when I started hearing noises. The small bearings and shaft that drive off the transmission were destroyed but the big timken bearings that turn the hub were still perfect as they come lightly oiled from the factory we were amazed that they were not damaged.
