NC IA | 1000 Grit is not enough in my opinion, you won't get good adhesion with that grit. I would look at scuffing with 400 grit.
I dont think you need to clear it - I think factory paint is just a single stage (no clear) paint. I would clean it really well, sand it with 400 - make sure you get it sanded everywhere including the corners. I also like to go over it with a red scotch pad after sanding to get any tight corners. Everything should be dull from sanding. Then clean it really well with some wax/grease remover. Then paint with the Case IH red paint from dealer. You can add some hardener they sell at the dealer if you want - I use a mix cup and do 8:1 for thinner and 10:1 hardener. seems to work well. Get a HVLP paint gun - works way better than a pot sprayer. I run around 35-40 lbs pressure on the air line, and remember - light coats. Do 3-4 passes of light coats. Don't try to cover it all in one pass.
