| This depends a what machine and dies you have. There are instances where a die used on -8 hose from one brand differs from the full closure diameter of another brand -8 die. They are NOT all the same. Best bet is to stick with hose and fittings that match the manufacturer of the machine and you get the setting support to make good quality assemblies that will hold up to what it’s rated for.
If you choose to use a different hose and fitting system than the manufacturer of the machine you will have to doa bunch of trials to get the crimp setting right to get the right crimp OD and this DOES matter.
Whatever you do don’t mix and match hose and fittings with no approved crimp spec. Don’t put Parker 43 fittings on Aeroquip hose or Gates hose. Or Gates ends on Parker or Aeroquip hose.
Don’t sell hose assemblies to your neighbors unless you have a complete, engineered system with compatible dies, crimper, hose, and fittings. You’re open to too much liability when something fails. If you have mismatched system it’s not a matter of if, it’s when. Hopefully it’s just an inconvenience of a leaky hose that needs replaced prematurely but coupling blow-offs can kill people. | |
