Subject: RE: Seed corn planters

Midwest

There's a fair amount of seed corn grown here. They just started picking a week ago or so. 16 and 12 row Deere heads on the Oxbo pickers.

Most of it is planted w/ 24 row planters here either center fill with a separate male row planter like in the pictures. I'll attach one too. Or center fill plus boxes so you can plant male at the same time if allowed.

It all depends on the two inbreds used and their pollination timing on how difficult planting is. Sometimes if you're lucky the male and females all go together and you can do it one pass if you have boxes on the planter. Sometimes you get to plant 2 or 3 times to get the female and male delay right so they pollinate later on at the same time. Auto steer has made it a huge help of course going back over where you planted before anything is up yet.

Here it's mostly 4+1 pattern but there's also 4+2 so you do have to be pretty flexible on the planting rows and male planters. Some here even use another 8 or 12 row older planter to go around the outside border rows with all male seed so they have 3 planters going at once in the same field
