Kendall County, IL | Ty, my 9770 has a pro-drive and 5 speed feeder house which is basically a 9870 with the smaller engine. It's my understanding the only threshing difference between a 9770 and a 9870 is the fixed extended front chaffer. These are solid high capacity machines so I don't think you can go wrong if you find one that has been well maintained. With that said, I had a 9560rt tractor with the JD 13.5l engine like the 9870. This engine gave me a lot of trouble which is why we went to Challenger tractors in this size. We had replaced the egr cooler twice due to failure and the second time it overheated to the point of cracking the head and requiring a complete overhaul around 4500 hours. Even before that Deere was out a few times a year to do a forced regen because it would derate. I'm assuming a 13.5l wouldn't have to work as hard in a combine but I would d****e the egr stuff if it was mine for long term reliability. | |
