Pack the bearings and then I wipe a little around inside of the hub so there is a coating of grease in it in case water gets in so hopefully it does not rust quite so much put a ample amount between the seal and inner bearing and assemble. Biggest way to prolong life of wheel bearings IMO is to keep them tight so there is no slop to shorten life of the seal ( inside storage helps a lot too).
