We loosened ours up so the clutch slipped easier and didn’t bend the feeder chain slats as bad. To the point where it’s about as loose as it can be and still feed without much trouble.
Same here, ruined a new feeder chain on a new combine, because slip clutch was too tight. Warranty did replace it as slip clutch was overtightened.
Now, when I get a new combine I loosen those springs about 2 turns and let it slip and then tighten as needed. Sure saves the slats from bending and breaking chain link mounts. I've got 3 years on this feeder chain. chain is about wore out but still running.
