I understand your thinking. Years ago a guy I knew used to go to a lot of sales (so did I). His thinking was, " if I go to sales and can understand the market better, and if that knowledge saves me some money down the road, then I have made pretty good wages for my time at sales." Never forgot that.

Went to alot of farm auctions in the 90's, 1 year at the end of the year I counted and had bought stuff at 56 auctions, and did not buy something at every one by far. Never came home at the time and thought what a wasted day, many time learned something of value from someone (for the younger guys it was the days before Ag Talk and the internet) or from something I saw at the auction. Definitely learned to sum up situations and reasons for the auction and how to judge situations and people's character, lessons that have served me very well in the ensuing years. Since I got married and had kids many times when I go to an auction of which there is darn few anymore I tend to feel guilty cause I know there is something at home I should be doing-darn midwest work ethic !!!
