Watch a few of the "Bad Chad" videos on YouTube. He can do the lipstick on a pig thing and his finishes are like a mirror. He uses the high end paint of course, but uses the HF type gun that is less than $100 and then throw it away.
I'm no painter like the others. I like the single stage paint from NAPA. Mixes 3:1:1 with reducer and hardner and it looks great when you're done. Second the high build primer but you need to lightly sand it when it gets dry for best finish.
Then when you apply paint, have a block of time to get it done, you paint, let it flash off, then repeat. I usually do 3 coats. If it dries, you will need to sand between coats for best results. On a grain cart, you may only be able to get one side at a time.
