Thanks for the replies.

As above said, honing and sanding the spool/bore to get smooth movement, caused to much leakage. I had a used one from before I knew about setting the relief valves and it tested good.

I found a few small Shiney flakes in the screens but that's all. I rebuilt this 15 spd 8 years ago. Both final drives and brakes were done close to that time.

I probably do need to change filters.

Before I sanded and honed a 2nd time this morning, the spool was stuck again overnight. Had to tap it out with hammer and drift.
