My salesman from my evil mega non family dealer brings parts out for us all the time when he is making the rounds. And if he is at the store and you are in a bind, he’ll meet you on the road

Maybe C Meyer can chime in on this, but I have always thought this is a good way to build loyalty with the customer. It is also a way for the salesperson to get to know their customers better.

Maybe I am out to lunch here, but if the salesperson was stopping by (even better if they are dropping parts off) and checking in with the customer, asking what machinery they are having issues with, what they want to replace next and keeping a list of that it would be a good way for them to sell equipment.

Farmer A wants a new combine, Farmer B is looking for a used combine, he could have the used one sold before it even hits the lot, but they have to ask and talk to their customers and not hide in the office.

If a salesman is out running around, then absolutely look and see if a customer near where he is going has parts on the shelf....

However, not every dealership has salespeople driving around looking for something to do...both of ours are on site, answering phones, sending pictures, taking care of quotes, talking to walk in, etc...and 90% of the customers we ask tell us they don't want a salesman showing up at their place when they are trying to do things. If you make an appointment, sure...but we stay plenty busy doing what we're doing.

As I said, most areas and dealerships are different, and in a lot of cases, customer expectations are different. In a perfect world I'd deliver all of our parts for a small fee...but this world isn't perfect, and a large percentage of customers are even out of driving range...so we ship UPS every day, and place orders every day. We are not a "we'll throw it on a stock order and you'll have it in a week" dealer...

It 100% is a customer satisfaction thing, and I wish I had the manpower to send folks out with parts everyday...but I struggle to have enough people to do what we HAVE to do, so this is a pipe dream for us at this time.
