have opportunity to buy a 305 Magnum 3900 hours, suspended front axle, full auto steer waas 262 receiver with pro 600, front and rear duals fair to good tread, new hydraulic pump. for 92k. I've seen some ridiculously low auction prices lately on this series magnum. Two were actually "shined up" and auctioned off again. Today 335 magnum with 4800 hours, not auto steer ready, no front suspension, sold for 66k. Earlier this year, these tractors were bringing closer 125 to 150k. Do i pull trigger now or wait it out more?
Should also state that they found metal filings in sump screen. Signal check valve in 3pt hitch had filings stuck in it along with regulated spool valve on top of trans. and the signal check valves on all remotes which actually had to be replaced because the seats were damaged by the metal filings. Previous owner has put 41 hours on it after repairs and no fault codes. But would you be concerned buying a tractor like this. Anyone of them can grenade at any time. But maybe this one has already seen the worst? 36k total repair cost!!!
Well now with this additional and critical information…
66k auction prices + $36k in repairs would put them in about the typical ballpark.
But, why do you want it? Why did the pump grenade on such a lower houred and supposedly one of the most bullet-proof yet creature comfort refined series that CIH had put out? Power, reliability, longevity, under-valued are adjectives typically used……. Where do filings go and did all the filings get out? Can changing hyd filters every 10 or 50 or whatever hours “catch” any remaining filings?
I’d be having a heart-to-heart with the service manager and the mechanic that worked on the tractor at the other dealership……. Because contrary to many, things CAN get worse. |
