Subject: Alfalfa experts ? How heavy to plant ?

I use to plant at 35 pounds per acre with a Brillion, fields are yielding 7-8 tons per acre a year.My buddy swears he plants 20 lbs per acre. The Brillion is down. . I am going to use my JD drill and broadcast the seed. To get 7-8 tons of alfalfa on 4 irrigated cuttings, where should I set my seed drill factoring in 35% coating ? I am planting Ameristand 716. The field below was planted at 35 pounds per acre , does it look at thick as thick as lower seeding rates ?
