Near Intersection of I-35 & I-90 Southern Mn. | I purchased a used 2019 Silverado a couple of years ago. It has the electric tail gate (not the fancy one that GMC offers). There is a button in the center of the tailgate and also a button on the dash to open the tail gate. There is no actual direct mechanical lever like in my former trucks.
When I push either button, I can hear action from within the tailgate but it doesn't always open. Apparently the latch is not quite releasing. Pushing the button several times has always resulted in opening it eventually but I'm concerned that someday it won't. There is no evidence of any physical external damage.
I asked a local body man if there is some type of adjustment in the linkage that could be tweaked. He said his experience is that the latching mechanism has some plastic parts that get worn with age and use. I gather that the only solution is to replace those parts.
