Subject: Jd soundguard steering

south texas
Few years ago had steering issues with 4960. Replaced pump, brick and rebuilt motor.

This summer steering got very poor again during harvest. Ran a pressure test on motor and it passed.

Pulled brick and it failed pressure test. The spool was stuck inside the valve enough that it took a hammer and drift to knock it loose. I sanded the spool and honed the bore. Spool works freely with one finger back and forth and had passed pressure test.

What caused the spool to stick? It wasn't debris inside the bore that I could feel with my finger. Spool wouldn't free up without hone and sanding.

I'm sure this is the issue but I don't want it to fail again when kids ect... are running this tractor. This was an oem jd brick new 3 - 4 years ago. I have half a mind to buy one from a scrap yard that was functional.
