They are cellular based. If you have cell service they will work. Free is probably an introductory offer. There ain’t nothing free in this world.
If you remember the old Nextel carrier had the same thing. They merged with Sprint, and then with T-Mobile and ceased to exist. Basically Nextel had old technology that did not work with newer technology.
After doing a little research they get a $50/year fee for each SIM card in each radio. They operate on the old LTE network, that is being phased out.
Depending on what you want to do with them.
We use cell phones for longer distances, and two way radios for local (within a few miles) like combine to grain care to sprayer to tender truck. We have a few areas without good cell service, but the radios will work. | |
