Subject: RE: Fall tillage for cornstalks

Mid-Michigan
For years we have plowed or some form of deep tillage with cornstalks. I now pull a sunflower 4511. It's a disc chisel. Pulls like a boat anchor and is very slow. This year the stuff I chisel plowed are my worst beans. It never really froze and it was just slimy mud underneath when I planted (waited as long as I could but just wouldn't dry out). Really wasted time and fuel last fall. I have a very good disc. This year I'm only going to run over my stalk with it and hope to plant directly into them in the spring. Possibly hit them once with a field cultivator if I have to.
