Torque required at a given horsepower decreases as speed increases which is why the industry has multiple PTO speed options. The 1000RPM pto drivelines can be light to handle the same load.

I would think if Westfield is brave enough to build an auger that big with a 540rpm driveline they must have thought it through and built it heavy enough.

I'm sure someone will show you a 540 RPM implement that tore up a tractor PTO but I've not personally heard of it. Outside of augers and tub grinders, not a lot of stationary implements that will pull a lot of HP out of a tractor, most share the tractor's HP with the drivetrain and never ask that much power out of the PTO.
