Subject: 8240 horizontal unload auger splines stripped

NCMO
We have been running an 8240 and purchased a second unit for this fall. It has 1740 hours on separator. We noticed a piece of the plastic bushing between bottom of elbow and top of vertical auger tube was hanging down. We removed the elbow to install new bushing. When we pulled the horizontal auger off of the splined shaft of the top right angle gear box, we found that the internal splines on the auger were about completely stripped out. But the auger flighting doesn't show much wear. It would run for several more hours. This machine has the long unload auger system that the back part folds around behind the combine when not unloading. Was wondering if the long auger system is putting too much stress on the auger coupler at the right angle gear box. Is the long folding auger known to cause problems? Thanks for any help.

Edit to add that the first 8240 has the standard length unload auger and has not caused any problems and has more hours.
